Business description: 
AmCham Philippines is the oldest American Chamber abroad –and the first in Asia. It has been a premier business organization for over 100 years; initiated in 1902 and incorporated in 1920. It is committed to the promotion of United States-Philippines relations at all levels and boasts 21 standing committees and two foundations that cover all aspects of business and industry in the country. 

The Arangkada Philippines Project (TAPP) is the principal advocacy office of AmCham Philippines. Arangakada means “to accelerate” in Filipino. It was launched in December 2010 by the seven-member Joint Foreign Chambers (JFC) to increase investment and employment in the Philippines. These goals and policy reforms are elaborated in its main policy document Arangkada Philippines 2010: A Business Perspective and subsequent policy briefs. The JFC advocates Arangkada recommendations with the Philippine Government and leading Philippines business trade and industry associations, through meetings with senior government officials, position papers and media statements and through the Arangkada website, www.arangkadaphilippines.com.

 Job Summary:

The Advocacy and Engagement Specialist is responsible for supporting Arangkada’s external affairs and advocacy activities. He/She is expected to be familiar with issues and related developments in the country’s economy and investment climate, with exposure to the executive or legislative branches of government. He/She must be able to effectively liaise and work with representatives from government and partners from the private sector, business groups, and partner organizations.

The Advocacy and Engagement Specialist will also oversee the preparations for and conduct of one of Arangkada’s annual flagship activities in close coordination with the team and external partners of the Project.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 Provide assistance for activities related to the priorities of the Project, the Chamber, and its partners, including but not limited to:

  1. Conducting research and monitoring of relevant developments in the regulatory and policymaking landscapes;
  2. Organizing and documenting roundtable discussions, sectoral consultations, and meetings with government officials and partners;
  3. Liaising with representatives from national government agencies and regulatory authorities to consult on relevant issues and common reform priorities, as needed;
  4. Liaising with the Joint Foreign Chambers and Philippine Business Groups to strengthen coalitions; 
  5. Preparing activity reports, technical reports, and weekly updates in prescribed formats used by the Project, as needed; and
  6. Facilitating the accomplishment of administrative and/operational requirements in support of the Project’s activities, as needed.
  7. Serve as lead in the preparations and successful implementation of one of Arangkada’s annual flagship activities.

Requirements:

· Education:
o Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Political Science, Economics, Public Policy, Political
Economy, or International Studies or related field.
o A Master’s degree or units toward a graduate degree is an advantage.


· Experience:
o Proven experience in event organization and management (mandatory).
o Experience in assisting policy-oriented and evidence-based research. Management
experience of projects funded by USAID or similar organizations is an advantage, but nonrequired;
o Experience in data collection and analysis. Background or basic familiarity with quantitative
research is an advantage but not required.
o Experience coordinating with representatives from policymaking bodies and national
government agencies.


· Skills and Knowledge:
o Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct research and prepare reports, policy
documents, and position papers.
o Solid understanding of developments and key issues related to the Philippine political
economy.
