THE ROLE

Under the general direction of the Head of Total Rewards,  the Compensation and Benefits Manager will be responsible for supporting the Khan Academy Total Rewards strategy by providing expertise and leadership in the day-to-day activities of the Total Rewards team, and be a key contact and contributor for Khan Academy’s US & Canada health and welfare plans, retirement programs (401k & RRSP), salary administration, and HR automation tools.

Role Responsibilities

  • Understand market conditions, compliance and best practices and apply to total rewards philosophy, strategic plans, and organizational initiatives to ensure compensation and benefit policies are aligned; partners with stakeholders to develop and implement creative and proactive solutions to remain competitive and compliant.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact with internal stakeholders and vendors for US and Canadian benefits and compensation questions.
  • Manage technology, tools, and systems to support compensation and benefit related activities, and serve as subject matter expert for HR total rewards tools; system integration experience is a bonus. 
  • Manage the development and maintenance of communication materials, handbook, and lead training related to comp and benefits programs as needed.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve the total rewards experience for employees.
  • Provide reporting, audit and analysis to support monitoring and inquiries into compensation and benefit actions.
  • Partner with all levels of employees, payroll, finance, vendors, legal counsel and government agencies. 

Benefits Management

  • Coordinate with benefit brokers, leaves administrators, and vendors to ensure quality and efficiency of delivery of benefit support.
  • Perform plan filings and audits to maintain plan qualification and governmental compliance.
  • Monitor usage, participation, utilization rates and trends on a regular basis. Identify problem areas in service delivery processes, troubleshoot issues and recommend solutions.
  • Assist in the annual benefits enrollment processes and new hire onboarding as necessary. 

Compensation Management

  • Manage administration of Khan Academy’s compensation programs to support organizational initiatives.
  • Oversee  governmental compliance reporting  to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, including EEO reporting, and following pay transparency legislation such as California SB 1162.
  • Manage submission and participation of annual and quarterly compensation surveys.
  • Conduct job evaluations and compensation analysis as needed to assist with Talent Acquisition, promotions and job adjustments.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 5+ years of related HR experience in the areas of US & Canadian Benefits, and Compensation
  • Working knowledge of US and California regulatory and legislative imperatives and impacts related to Total Rewards programs (FLSA, Sec 125, ERISA, HIPAA, PPACA, FMLA, etc.)
  • Experience with Aon Radford or similar benchmarking tools
  • Proficiency in using Excel and/or Google Sheets.
  • Proven experience managing third-party vendor relationships with respect to employee benefits
  • Analytical and extremely detail oriented, with high standards for accuracy and precision.
  • Strong process and project management skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills; ability to effectively present to internal and external audiences.
