The role involves a comprehensive understanding of the customer account selling process, product discovery, market intelligence, and marketing activities, particularly within the food segment. As a remote position, the Sales Manager will have the flexibility to work from various locations, although proximity to ADM's offices in Decatur, Chicago, or Erlanger is preferred for support and collaboration. Reporting directly to the Director of Sales for Texturants Non-Foods in North America, the Sales Manager will be responsible for interfacing with key customer influencers and decision-makers, negotiating sales contracts, and ensuring timely execution of sales agreements. The role requires a strategic approach to account management, including the development of annual sales plans, managing sales volumes, pricing, and credit issues, and utilizing customer-related systems such as CRM tools. The Sales Manager will also be tasked with identifying new business opportunities, coordinating special customer requirements, and compiling reports to track progress against goals. This position involves a travel commitment of 25-40% to meet with clients and explore new market opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop relationships with key customer influencers and decision makers.
  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities to grow market share for lecithin, polyol, and hydrocolloid solutions.
  • Gather and analyze market information to inform business strategy at customer, market, pricing, and product levels.
  • Negotiate sales contracts and manage contract execution from agreement to delivery.
  • Develop and execute account plans for new and existing customers.
  • Define and deliver the annual sales plan for assigned markets as established by business managers.
  • Manage sales volumes, pricing, credit issues, and contract status through interaction with business support teams.
  • Utilize customer-related systems, including planning tools and CRM systems like SalesForce.com.
  • Prepare action plans for effective search of sales leads and prospects, including hunting for new business.
  • Initiate and coordinate development of action plans to penetrate new markets according to the strategic roadmap.
  • Provide timely, accurate, competitive pricing on all completed prospect applications submitted for pricing and approval.
  • Maintain accurate records of all pricing, sales, activity reports, and contract balances.
  • Compile monthly and quarterly reports to share with business leaders to ensure individual goals are met.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is required; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in food ingredients, nutraceuticals, specialty chemicals, additives, or related industries.
  • Experience in industrial applications is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining strong relationships with key customers, particularly in strategic decision-making roles.
  • Proven ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders.
  • Exceptional strategic and tactical business planning skills with a track record of identifying market opportunities and driving growth.
