The Warehouse/Commissary Worker assists with all aspects of the warehouse and/or commissary functions, to include working with and directing teams of inmate/resident workers. Receives, stores and inventories stock, supplies and equipment utilized in the on-going operation of the commissary and for general facility operations.

  • Under the direction of the supervisor, performs accurate and timely receipt, routing and storage of goods and cleaning chemicals received in accordance with appropriate sanitation standards and applicable codes. Prepares materials for shipment, as required.
  • Conducts commissary sales transactions, processing inmate/resident order forms, performs data entry, verifies and delivers pulled orders to the appropriate inmate.
  • Maintains up-to-date facility and warehouse inventories of all furniture, equipment and supplies. Monitors commissary goods for sale, to sustain minimum and maximum inventory levels as necessary.
  • Accurately and timely prepares a variety of records and reports as required. Creates and maintains files in an organized manner, to include sorting, labeling, filing and retrieving. Maintains confidentiality and security of records.
  • Communicates effectively with administration, staff, inmates/residents, and visitors, particularly in situations requiring tact, diplomacy, understanding, fairness, firmness and good judgment. This includes giving information, instructions and directions in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Conducts counts of inmates/residents working in the area, controlling access to equipment and supplies, and controlling the introduction of contraband items into the facility living areas through proper search procedures.
  • Provides supervision and direction for assigned inmates/residents in the performance of their duties. Escorts inmates/residents or coordinates the movement of inmates/residents to and from different areas.


Qualifications:
  • High School diploma, GED certification or equivalent is required.
  • One year of experience in warehouse/commissary operation, including the physical control and movement of inventory is preferred.
  • Must be able to operate hand truck, forklift and/or pallet jacks.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Minimum age requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
