About the position
The PMI serves as a key position at the Long Beach FSDO, primarily responsible for planning, designing, and executing various programs and projects related to aviation safety. The position is located in Long Beach, CA, and is not a 100% telework role, although situational telework may be available based on office needs. The PMI provides policy assistance to field-level Aviation Safety Inspectors (ASIs) and is expected to work independently on complex tasks. The role involves significant decision-making that impacts aviation safety and operations.
Responsibilities
- Plan, design, and carry out programs, projects, and studies related to aviation safety.
- Provide policy assistance to field-level Aviation Safety Inspectors on complex policy interpretations.
- Evaluate maintenance programs for general aviation organizations.
- Advise other inspectors on major changes and evaluate new training methods and equipment.
- Represent the agency in regulatory surveillance of general aviation activities.
- Keep management informed of the status of all programs and projects.
- Prepare technical correspondence to various stakeholders including the aviation industry and government agencies.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Must submit an SF50.
- Position is designated as Moderate Risk; a background investigation may be required.
- Not more than two separate incidents involving Federal Aviation regulations violations in the last 5 years.
- Valid State driver's license.
- Fluency in the English language.
- No chemical dependencies or drug abuse that could interfere with job performance.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience involving the maintenance and repair of airframes, power plants, and aircraft systems.
- Maintenance experience with aircraft 12,500 pounds or less maximum certificated takeoff weight.
- Experience in a repair station, air carrier or airline repair facility, military repair facility, or governmental agency.
- Possession of a valid second-class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations.
